Ads auto play now without an option to exit

What the heck happened? This used to be my go-to app for news in Northern VA. I will be deleting it.
If a news story has a video with it, the ad automatically starts playing even if you just want to READ the article, instead of watching it. There is no option to exit out of the ad. I have a hard time exiting from the news story video after the ad plays.

Sorry Nbc4.. This was the final straw in bad choices for your app.
